Portland Scenic Gateway
Group Inc.

PSG as it is known is a small urban landcare group that focuses on restoring urban landscapes to natural environments. The group has been fortunate that the Glenelg Shire has supported its request to redevelop an area known as The Sink Hole off Hanlon Parade. Group members brainstormed ideas on how to develop the site with many exciting possibilities put forward. As the history of The Sink Hole was discussed it was obvious that local indigenous be involved in future planning.

Council supported an initial planting by providing native plants, guards and stakes. Stage one was planted after site was prepared. Further stages will be developed as areas are prepared for planting. Maintenance work by the group will include weed control and application of mulch.

Group members have a wide and diverse range of both knowledge and skills that are used to ensure positive well planned outcomes for the site. Group meetings are called when required but members take responsibility for maintaining the site in their own time while some planned working bees are called when needed. Key aim is for members to take ownership of the site and work at site or simply enjoy the area when it suits them.

Major developments such as a pathway and seating will depend on successful grant applications and the support of local businesses. The group will also request the adjoining area of crown land also be developed by PSG.
